Drawing invites you to pause and really look at the world around you, because it’s impossible to draw a natural object if you haven’t first studied it closely. As you draw, you inevitably find yourself asking questions about form, function, colour, and texture.
After 20 years of teaching science in both primary and secondary schools, I’ve taken time to slow down and delve into my passion for drawing nature. By blending my scientific knowledge with my love for art, I aim to highlight the intricate, and often overlooked, details found in nature.
Australian birds, with their striking features and unique personalities, have been a particularly inspiring subject. Creating their portraits with coloured pencils has been my latest endeavour.
